Serena Williams and Alexis Ohanian are approaching nearly a decade of their remarkable partnership. What began as a chance encounter filled with humor blossomed into a loving marriage and parenthood, with the couple now raising two beautiful daughters. Reflecting on their journey, Serena and Alexis recently returned to where they took vows for life, bringing their daughters along to share in the special moment. The gesture symbolized how their life has come full circle, celebrating the milestones that have shaped their bond and family.
Ohanian celebrated his seventh wedding anniversary with Serena Williams in a heartfelt and memorable way. The Reddit co-founder married the tennis legend in New Orleans in November 2017, the same year they welcomed their first child, Olympia Ohanian. Over the years, Ohanian has often shared public tributes to Williams, expressing his deep love and gratitude.
Last year, he marked their sixth anniversary with a touching message on X (formerly Twitter): “How did 6 years and 2 kids go by so fast?? I’m trying to be a better man every day. Thank you for giving me the ultimate gift: your love and your partnership in creating the most perfect two humans I’ve ever met. Happy anniversary, @serenawilliams.”
This year, the couple chose to make their anniversary even more special. Ohanian shared a family photo on Instagram from New Orleans, the city where they exchanged vows, now made even more meaningful by including their daughters, Olympia and Adira.
In a heartfelt caption, he wrote, “7 years ago today, we got married here. Now we get to bring these two for beignets. Happy Anniversary Thanks for giving me the two greatest humans we’ve ever met. You’re an amazing mama. I’m very lucky to have met you @serenawilliams @olympiaohanian @adiraohanian.” His words reflected his profound love for Williams and the joy of their family life.
Ohanian has consistently shown his admiration for Williams, often sharing sweet and humorous tributes. On their fourth anniversary, he cheekily thanked her for bringing Olympia into their lives while teasing her for always falling asleep during movie nights. “Thank you for bringing this joy named Olympia into our life even though you always fall asleep in the middle of our movie nights,” tweeted Ohanian. But their journey together is not just about laughter and happiness, but also navigating difficult phases together.
Serena gave birth to Olympia via C-section. After that, her fresh C-section wound popped open because of the intense coughing spells that was caused by the pulmonary embolism. So she had to return to surgery. But this was just the beginning of the battle.
The doctors found that a large hematoma had flooded her abdomen. Probably the potentially lifesaving blood thinner caused hemorrhaging at the site of her C-section. She returned yet again to the OR to have a filter inserted into a major vein, to prevent more clots from traveling into her lungs.
Serena came home a week later only to find that the night nurse had fallen through, and she spent the first six weeks of motherhood completely bed-ridden. Here is when Alexis’ commitment came into play.
He took a 16-week paternity leave to take care of an ailing Serena and the newborn. “I was happy to change diapers,” Alexis had said to Vogue. “But on top of everything she was going through, the feeling of not being able to help made it even harder. Consider for a moment that your body is one of the greatest things on this planet, and you’re trapped in it.” Despite going through this tough phase they decided to bring a second child.
“I always knew I wanted kids. I never knew when but I always knew I wanted kids at some point. I learned that love is an amazing feeling. And if you have an opportunity to feel it, then it’s a special thing,” Serena had said about having children. Indeed, they both have been each other’s rock in this journey. So Serena has never shied away from celebrating their relationship publicly and she has nothing but praise for Ohanian.
Serena Williams considers Alexis Ohanian “the best dad” to her girls
Serena Williams shared an adorable family photo on Instagram to celebrate her union with Ohanian, dressed in costumes from Olympia’s recent party, adding a personal touch to the celebration. Serena’s caption melted hearts.
“7 years has gone so fast… Happy anniversary @alexisohanian. Thank you for being the best dad to our girls @olympiaohanian and @adiraohanian. Thanks for also making an average November day a costume party and making it special. ️️” She also included a snapshot from their New Orleans trip, giving fans a glimpse of their anniversary festivities.
