Daniil Medvedev was getting annoyed by the Rome crowd, which led to the Russian shushing certain noisy fans from the stands. In the Rome Masters round-of-16, Medvedev defeatedAlexander Zverev6-2 7-6 (3). Leading 4-3 and serving for a 5-3 lead in the second set, Medvedev had 40/0 on his serve before Zverev stunningly won the next five points to get the break back.

In those moments, the Rome crowd was starting to get heavily involved in the match and throwing support behind Zverev. But Medvedev seemingly felt they were crossing the line.

Leading 6-2 4-3 and having three consecutive game points, Medvedev appeared to be heading toward a straight-set win.

But Zverev managed to get the break back and also had a set point on Medvedev’s serve in the 10th game. Fortunately for Medvedev, he landed a big serve to save the set points and later completed a two-set win in the tie-break.

“He started to play a little bit better for sure. We had some long games, and I should have played better on this game at 4-3. I should have done better from 40/0. I made a few easy errors, but that’s tennis and I knew that I had to continue.

It was not an easy moment, [later I had a] set point to save. I’m happy with my level throughout the whole match, except this game and I’m really looking forward to the next match,” Medvedev said after the match.

In April, Medvedev and Zverev played a very tense match at the Monte Carlo Masters. That match featured some drama as Zverev called Medvedev “one of the most unfair players in the world” in Monte Carlo. Before their Rome match, Medvedev revealed that they spoke and cleared the air. During their Rome match, there wasn’t anything bad between Medvedev and Zverev.
