Toyota Yaris Cross emerges as a strong rival for the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos

The upcoming B-sized SUV model, set to launch in the middle of this month, will be distinct from its counterparts in markets like Singapore, Japan, or Europe. The latest information suggests that this model will feature unique design, chassis, and engine components.

Recently, Toyota has sent an invitation to the Indonesian press to an event to launch a completely new model on May 15. In the letter, the Japanese automaker does not “show the name” of the upcoming model, but only calls it a “new urban car icon”. Notably, the launch date of this new “urban car” completely coincides with the time that Wapcar website predicts about the launch time of Toyota Yaris Cross 2023 in Southeast Asia, which is in the first quarter of this year. II/2023.

Currently, this B-sized SUV has been sold in some markets such as Singapore, Japan or Europe. However, the Toyota Yaris Cross 2023 for the Southeast Asian market will not be the same as the car in the aforementioned regions.

Accordingly, the upcoming Toyota Yaris Cross 2023 in Indonesia will probably use the Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DNGA) platform like the Toyota Vios, Raize, Veloz Cross and Avanza Premio. Meanwhile, Toyota Yaris Cross sold in Japan, Singapore and Europe uses the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA-B) platform.

In terms of design, it is highly likely that the Yaris Cross 2023 will be influenced by the new generation Toyota Vios “brother” sold in Thailand, Indonesia and Laos. The B-sized SUV will be raised with a high ground clearance and sportier, stronger appearance.

It is not clear which engine Toyota Yaris Cross will be equipped with. However, according to rumors, the car will use two different types of engines. The first is a 4-cylinder, DOHC, naturally aspirated petrol engine with a capacity of 1.5L, which comes with a CVT continuously variable automatic transmission and front-wheel drive, similar to the Toyota Vios 2023 in Indonesia.

The second is a hybrid powertrain called e-Smart, including a 4-cylinder petrol engine, 1.5L capacity and an electric motor. This e-Smart system has the same operating principle as Nissan’s e-Power technology, is the gasoline engine is only used to charge the battery while the task of driving the wheels belongs to the electric motor.

Toyota Yaris Cross “closes” the launch schedule on May 15, Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos have more rivals

After launching in the Indonesian market, Toyota Yaris Cross 2023 may also return to Vietnam in the third quarter of this year. The car will be imported CBU and will have a fuel-efficient hybrid version.
