The Kansas City Chiefs managed to secure the services of linebacker Drue Tranquill for the next three years on Thursday night by signing him to a $19 million contract that is reported to include $13 million in guarantees.
Tranquill signed with the Chiefs in 2023 after previously playing for the Los Angeles Chargers from 2019 until 2022. A Notre Dame product, Tranquill is known for his outstanding tackling ability and savvy at the linebacker position.
By keeping him on the roster, Kansas City will maintain continuity in its linebacker corps that helped lead the way in the Chiefs’ Super Bowl LVIII victory over the San Francisco 49ers in February.
Though many fans were hoping for news about star defensive lineman Chris Jones before free agency opens next week, they were nevertheless bullish about the prospect of retaining Tranquill, who proved to be a key contributor to the Chiefs’ defense last season.
